Grand Canyon returns to Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark for a six-game homestand featuring three non-conference matchups and three conference games. The Lopes begin the six-game stretch with a two-game, mid-week series against UNLV.
The Lopes and Rebels are matching up for the fourth consecutive season. In each of the past three seasons, the two schools have split two-game series.
Both games are a part of GCU's Colangelo College of Business Sports Management Student Promotion Challenge. Tuesday's game is "Night at the Circus" featuring circus-themed activities, prizes, and a dunk tank. Wednesday's matinee is "Waffle Wednesday" where the first 300 fans can get free waffles; all fans will have a shot at special in-game activities and prizes.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- ABOUT LAST WEEK: Quin Cotton had a five-hit game, the Lopes scored 18 runs in a game, Pikai Winchester had a nine-RBI weekend, and the Lopes won their 11th consecutive conference series. GCU's 11-series winning streak in conference play is the longest active streak in the nation.
- FEELING AT HOME: GCU has won seven of its last eight games in the friendly confines of GCU Ballpark. The Lopes swept Penn State, took one of two from Kansas, and swept Chicago State.
- MILESTONE WATCH: Head Coach Andy Stankiewicz needs just four more victories to hit the 200-win mark in his college head coaching career. In his seventh season, Stankiewicz currently features a career mark of 196-156-1 (.557).
SCOUTING
UNLV has spent time in the D1Baseball Top 25 this season after a 20-3 start to the year. The Rebels have since dropped out of the rankings after back-to-back series losses (San Diego State, Nevada) in Mountain West Conference play.
The Rebels are one of the nation's top offenses. They rank 5th in average (.320), 2nd in hits (336), 3rd in doubles (77), 8th in runs (227) and 11th in homers (34).
UNLV lost two of three games on the road at Nevada over the weekend. The Wolf Pack claimed the first two games of the series by one run each game. Nevada hit a walk-off single in the first game and scored eight runs in the first five innings to clinch the series. UNLV salvaged one game in the series by erasing an early 2-0 Nevada lead to win 7-3.
The Rebels have six qualifying batters with averages of over .300 this season. Las Vegas native Bryson Scott, a sophomore infielder, leads the team with a .403 average and .496 on-base percentage. Scott was the Mountain West's Co-Freshman of the Year last season. Nick Ames, although batting .274, leads the team with nine home runs and is second on the team with 33 RBIs. Ames is an Arizona native, hailing from Tucson.
The Lopes and Rebels split last year's two-game, mid-week series in Las Vegas. Grand Canyon claimed the opener in 11 innings, 10-8. With the bases loaded, two outs and two strikes for
Jared McDonald in the 11th inning, the sophomore lined a ball past UNLV's second baseman, driving in two runs on what proved to be the game-winning hit in a 10-8 victory.
Jeramy Smith spun two scoreless frames in extras, earning the first win of his GCU career. The Rebels claimed Game 2 on a walk-off throwing error in the ninth, winning 5-4.
UNLV's roster features seven Arizona natives.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Lopes won two of three games at Northern Colorado.

- Most away runs scored since April 18, 2015 at NM State (W, 18-3).
- Biggest road win since April 20, 2012 at Academy of Art (W, 20-3).
