PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Grand Canyon softball team couldn't put together a consistent offense in the series finale with New Mexico State, as the Lopes (22-22, 3-5 WAC) dropped the game, 2-0, to the Aggies (23-16, 8-1 WAC) on Saturday night at GCU Softball Stadium.
The Aggies took an early lead in the first inning, as NMSU managed a two-out double and then capitalized on an errant play by the Lopes defense to plate the first run of the game.
NMSU went ahead by two runs in the top of the third with an RBI single to center field.
The Lopes turned a double play in the top of the seventh to halt the Aggies at two runs.
Bianca Boling nailed a triple down the right field line to start the momentum for the Lopes in the final half inning, but the rally was cut short.
Four Lopes put hits on the board in the series finale, as Boling led with the triple in the seventh.
Loriann Olson,
Shea Smith and
Kendsey Hill each tallied base hits for the GCU offense.
Freshman right-hander
Yesenia Morrison (6-4) dealt one strikeout in the complete game outing.
The Lopes go back on the road next weekend, as GCU continues the WAC schedule at Seattle U with a doubleheader on Friday, April 20.
