Making the Academic All-America team again is a fitting honor for a student-athlete and an All-American young man like Grand Canyon's
Joshua Braun.
Braun received Academic All-America honors for a third consecutive year. He was selected for Division I third-team honors after also being a first-team Academic All-America pick in the previous two years.
Braun, a fifth-year senior, graduated from GCU in business management and is now pursuing a master's degree in business administration. He carries a 3.60 grade point average.
During the Lopes' 22-11 season, Braun has been the team's leading scorer and became GCU's all-time leading scorer with 1,714 points entering Wednesday's College Basketball Invitational first-round game against Mercer. His career point total is the highest among active Western Athletic Conference players. He has averaged at least 11.8 points per game in each of his four Lopes seasons, earning All-WAC honors in the past three -- first team twice and second team once.
West Virginia's Jevon Carter won Academic All-America of the Year in this year's voting. which is done by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Central Arkansas senior Jordan Howard, the son of GCU corporate wellness administrator Chuck Howard, also was named to the Academic All-America second team for a second consecutive year.
