Grand Canyon held an employee party that started early Saturday outside GCU Arena but the Lopes' basketball party inside GCU Arena got off to a late start.
The Lopes (7-5) used a 15-0 run and a defensive stretch of holding Mississippi Valley State without a field goal for nearly 10 minutes to take command. With sophomore
Alessandro Lever scoring a team season-high 26 points, GCU won 85-64 to extend its regular season home winning streak to 12 games.
The Delta Devils made one last push on the Lopes early in the second half, cutting the lead to 43-34 with 16:35 remaining in the game. But with Lever scoring 15 of GCU's first 20 points of the second half, the Lopes began the blowout. GCU went on an 11-0 run for a 54-34 lead Lever made 10 of 17 shots and grabbed five minutes in 26 minutes for his second 20-point game of the season.

Oscar Frayer also scored 16 points. The Lopes outscored the Delta Devils 42-20 in the paint and shot 57 percent from the field in the second half.
The Lopes emerged sluggishly and trailed 16-7 before a lineup of sophomore point guard
Damari Milstead and reserves scored 15 unanswered points. The GCU defense, which held Northern Iowa without a field goal for nearly seven minutes Wednesday, kept Mississippi Valley State from making one for almost 10 minutes of the first half Saturday.
The Lopes stretched the first-half lead to as much as 13 points before the Delta Devils closed the gap to 34-27 at halftime.
GCU takes a Christmas hiatus before returning to action next Saturday at San Diego, which is 7-0 at home this season and 9-3 overall.
