Former Grand Canyon basketball star
DeWayne Russell, whose GCU and pro reflections are captured in the video above, is playing his second professional season in Europe.
Russell, a 24-year-old guard, earned a contract with HAKRO Merlins Crailsheim of the top German league, Basketball Bundesliga. Russell mostly has come off the bench for Crailsheim but started its most recent game Saturday, when he posted 12 points, three assists and three steals. This season, Russell is averaging 7.6 points, 3.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 0.7 steals in 19.3 minutes per game. He is shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from 3-point range as Crailsheim has struggled to a 1-8 start, including two losses before Russell arrived.
In his first professional season, Russell averaged 13.6 points, 5.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals for SLUC Nancy in the France Pro B league. Russell expressed his appreciation
