The Grand Canyon women's soccer team tied Utah Valley 0-0 on Sunday's Senior Day at GCU Stadium.
The Lopes (6-12-1, 3-3-1 WAC) honored six graduating players --
Abby Burton,
McKenzie Cook,
Brylee Hawkins,
Sarah Inafuku,
Jennifer Pippin and
Kelsey Smith.
"The tie was a good result for us," Lopes head coach
Derek Leader said. "Utah Valley is always tough. We've had our challenges with them in the past.
"Obviously, we've been through our fair share of overtime matches and to come out with a tie was a positive result. I felt like the girls played really well. In the end, we're looking forward to our last match of the season and then the conference tournament, where we'll probably see Utah Valley again."
Â
The Lopes outshot the Wolverines 19-17 while GCU put 12 of its shots on goal. Burton made five saves on the day while the Utah Valley goalkeeper Sarah Davis needed to make 12.
Â
GCU and UVUÂ (4-12-2, 3-3-1) remained in a tie for fifth place in the conference after battling through an aggressive 90 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods.
Cook led the Lopes in shots with four while the trio of Hawkins,
Camryn Larson and
Andrea Martinez tallied three shots apiece. Smith and
Noah Johnson each had two while
Perri Belzer and Inafuku each took one shot.
Â
The tie marks the first for GCU this season while the extra-minutes game is its sixth this season.
Â
The Lopes close the regular season Friday at CSU Bakersfield. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. (Arizona time).Â
