PEORIA – The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team fell to Connecticut 25-13, 25-20, 25-22 on Saturday morning at the Bradley Tournament. GCU will take on host Bradley at 4 p.m. later today.
Claire Kovensky led the Lopes with nine kills while adding seven digs.
Natalie Tardy added four kills on .444 hitting.
Teagan DeFalco added a pair of kills to go along with a team-high nine digs.
After a one match absence, Kovensky returned and gave GCU a 6-3 lead with a kill. The Lopes were up 10-9 but UConn scored 10 straight points to lead comfortably 19-10. The Huskies won the first set 25-13.
In the second set, the Lopes took a 12-9 lead after a
Natalie Tardy kill. GCU would continue to lead until UConn tied it up at 19-19 after a GCU attack error. The Huskies would end up scoring eight of the final nine points of the set to win the second set 25-20.
After a
Kobie Dunn service run, the Lopes led 13-10 in the third set. Ahern would give the Lopes a 17-15 advantage after an ace. UConn would get to 20 points first, leading 20-18 as the Lopes called a timeout. The Huskies would take the set 25-22.
GCU is back in action this evening at 4 p.m. taking on the Braves on the Bradley campus.
