The Grand Canyon softball team hits the road for the first of two tourneys in Northern California as they play in the Stanford Easton Classic on Mar. 10-12. The Lopes will play Stanford, Cal Poly, Lehigh and UCONN this weekend.
GCU will play in five contests over the weekend. The Lopes open the tourney on Friday, Mar. 10 against Cal Poly at 3 p.m. MST and close out the day against Stanford at 7:30. GCU returns to the field on Saturday, Mar.11 in its final game against Cal Poly at 3 and will finish against Lehigh at 7:30. GCU will wrap up ball play on Sunday, Mar. 12 as they face UCONN at 3.Â
- Camree Wartman has been stellar at the plate this season. Currently hitting .342 on the season, she leads the team with 21 RBI and is tied for sixth in the NCAA with nine doubles thus far. Â

After adding six more to the win column after the GCU Invitational, head coach
Ann Pierson earned her 400th career win  in the team's 7-5 victory over Rhode Island on Feb. 25. After the GCU Round Robin her all-time record improved to 405-298-3 (.594).

Shea Smith and
Mariah Valencia swept WAC Player of the Week honors after play in the GCU Round Robin. Valencia went 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA. Smith hit .750 with a perfect 7-for-7 day on Sunday.Â

After earning her 11th win last weekend,
Taylor Nowlin is tied for second in the NCAA for most wins. On Sunday vs. Maine, She allowed just three hits, with 11 strikeouts.
Last time outÂ
GCU went 4-1 in the GCU Round Robin improving to 20-2 on the year. The Lopes produced a .343 batting average adding 34 runs from 48 hits, including eight doubles and one triple. Although GCU suffered its first home loss to Maine, they bounced back Sunday, defeating Creighton (8-3)and Maine (9-2) tallying 25 hits through both contests.Â

Scouting Cal Poly
- GCU will meet with Cal Poly for the first time in program history.
- The Mustangs are currently 12-6 on the season, including a six-game win streak coming into the Stanford Easton Classic.
- Leading the Mustangs, senior Sierra Hyland owns a .346 batting average (18-for-52) with a team leading 18 RBI.Â
- In the circle, Lindsey Chalmers (5-2) owns a 0.82 ERA (5 ER/42.2 IP) with 48 strikeouts on the season.

Scouting Stanford
- Grand Canyon will meet Stanford for the first time in program history.
- Stanford is currently 13-8 on the season, picking up a victory over UC Davis on Wednesday.Â
- Leading Stanford, Teaghan Cowles is hitting .493 (35-for-71) with six doubles, three triples, 20 RBI and 20 runs scored through 20 games this season.Â
- In the circle, Carolyn Lee (5-5) leads the team with a 2.90 ERA and 43 strikeouts.
- Head coach Rachel Hanson is her third season with Stanford.
Scouting Lehigh
- GCU will meet with Lehigh for the first time in program history.
- The Mountain Hawks are currently 4-6 on the season, and come into the Stanford Easton Classic with three consecutive losses, including two against Rutgers.
- Mary-Hannah Smith leads Lehigh with a .398 batting average (7-for-18).Â
- In the circle, Christine Campbell (3-1) owns a team-leading 2.28 ERA (9 ER/27.2 IP) and 19 strikeouts.
- Head coach Fran Troyan is in his 22nd season with the Lehigh softball team. Troyan has led the Mountain Hawks to 19 Patriot League regular season titles, ten tournament crowns, and nine NCAA Tournament appearances.
Scouting UCONN
- GCU will meet UCONN for the third time and first since 2015 when the two teams split the meetings 1-1.
- Â Valarie Sadowl leads the Huskies with a .405 batting average (15-for-37) and nine RBI.
- In the circle, Jill Stockley (2-3) owns a team-leading 1.63 ERA (7 ER/30.0 IP) and three complete games.
