Lopes face top-ranked talent in upcoming road matches

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The Grand Canyon beach volleyball team continues their matches on the road beginning with the 2nd Annual Monterey Invitational on Saturday, March 18. The Lopes will face off against UCLA, Portland and San Jose State on the second and final day of the tournament hosted by the Spartans and the IMUA Volleyball Club in Monterey, Calif.

The Lopes, currently 8-2 on the season, will take on top-ranked talent this weekend, including their first match against No. 3 UCLA. The Bruins are coming off an impressive 4-0 winning streak at the East Meets West Invitational which concluded with a victory over then second-ranked FSU. The Lopes will follow up with a match at noon against the Pilots (2-0) before facing off against the Spartans (3-1) to end the day.

Before heading home, the team will compete against the Pacific Tigers (3-6) in Stockton, Calif. on Monday, Mar. 20 at 2:30 p.m. The Lopes are looking to continue their success on the road after going 3-1 in the Gamecock Challenge. They faced only their second loss of the season against then No. 15 South Carolina.
