The Grand Canyon men's basketball team will host UMKC at GCU Arena on Saturday, Feb. 25, as they honor seniors
Darion Clark and
DeWayne Russell. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MST and will be broadcasted live in the Phoenix area on CW6 and streamed online at
GCU.tv. Barry Buetel will be providing play-by-play with analyst Scott Williams and Kate Longworth on the sideline.The contest will also be streamed on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
The game will be blacked out in central and northern Arizona, but will be available outside Arizona.
GCU fans can listen live on the radio as Michael Potter and Tom Kuyper will be airing on Fox Sports 910 or on the iHeart Radio App. The pregame show will start 15 minutes before tip and conclude with a postgame show featuring comments from head coach
Dan Majerle.
- Saturday is Senior Night at GCU Arena as the Lopes will be honoring their two seniors, Darion Clark and DeWayne Russell.
- GCU won their 20th game of the season, their second 20-win season in as many years, with a 82-59 win over Chicago State at GCU Arena on Thursday night.
- Joshua Braun tied Ron Singleton's school record with nine 3-pointers in Thursday's game. Singleton achieved the feat on Feb. 3, 1987 against Western New Mexico. Braun's nine 3-pointers were a career-high and the most in the Division I era.
- The last time these two teams met, Russell scored a game-high 27 points and Keonta Vernon recorded his fifth double-double. The Lopes led by 12 at halftime, but faltered down the stretch, giving up 53 second half points and falling to UMKC 83-77 at Municipal Auditorium.
- With 17 points Thursday, Russell passed Braun to become the single-season scoring leader in GCU Division I history with 563 points. Braun scored 562 in the 2015-16 season.
- Braun trails Richard Davis for the GCU all-time record for 3-pointers by 13. Davis drained 197 treys from 2005-07, including a school record 107 in 2015-06.
- Russell leads the WAC in both scoring and assists, averaging 21.7 points per game while dishing out an average of 5.2 assists per game. Russell led the WAC in assists in 2015-16.
- With Russell's 17 points against Chicago State on Thursday, he has now scored in double-figures in 31-straight games, the most by a GCU player in the Division I era.
- Russell is averaging 21.7 points per game, ranking 11th in the NCAA. Central Michigan's Marcus Keene leads the country (29.8).
- Russell ranks second in the NCAA in minutes played, averaging 38.3 per game. He has played all 40 minutes in 10 games this season.
- Russell and Braun are the only GCU players to have started every game they've played, but each has missed time. Gerard Martin had started the first 24 games before coming off the bench vs. UTRGV on Feb. 9.
- Kareem Richardson is in his fourth season as head at UMKC, compiling a 45-70 record in 115 games at the helm.
- The Roos fell to 71-62 at Bakersfield after winning their previous five games. UMKC has already surpassed their win total both overall and in the conference from 2015-16, when they finished 12-19 and 4-10 in conference play.
- For the season, senior LaVell Boyd leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.6 ppg, fourth best in the WAC.
