PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Grand Canyon women's basketball team looks to win its third-straight contest on Thursday, as the Lopes (4-8, 0-0 WAC) host Santa Clara (4-6, 0-0 WCC) at 2 p.m. in the first game of a Grand Canyon basketball double header. Grand Canyon meets the Broncos for the first time since transitioning to Division I, while Santa Clara is GCU's first West Coast Conference opponent this season.
The Lopes defeated in-state foe NAU, 72-54, and Southern Utah, 59-54, for two-straight victories, as they look to secure a third on Thursday. Thursday's game marks the final contest of 2017 for GCU, as the Lopes return home on Jan. 2 to face Arizona Christian.

Scouting Santa Clara
Santa Clara is 4-6 on the season and heads to Phoenix on a one-game losing streak. The Broncos fell to Cal State Fullerton at home to begin the season, but turned it around with a home victory over UC Santa Barbara. The Broncos then lost to USC and Northwestern in back-to-back games before defeating Illinois at Chicago over Thanksgiving break.
Since then, Santa Clara has lost to San Jose State, California and Nevada, while earning wins over Menlo and San Diego State. Thursday's game is Santa Clara's final non-conference matchup of the season.
Last year, the Broncos were 14-16 overall and 9-9 in the West Coast Conference. Santa Clara fell to Saint Mary's in the West Coast Conference tournament, 60-57, to end the 2016-17 campaign in Las Vegas.
