The Grand Canyon men's basketball looks to tie its longest Division I winning streak as they aim for their 12th straight win dating back to last year as they host San Diego at GCU Arena on Saturday, Nov. 25. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MST and will be broadcasted live in the Phoenix area on YurView (Ch. 4 Phoenix / Ch. 7 Tucson) and streamed online at GCU.tv. Out of market broadcast will also be available on ESPN3 (Subject to blackout within Arizona). Barry Buetel will be providing play-by-play with analyst Scott Williams and Kate Longworth on the sideline.
GCU fans can listen live as Michael Potter and Tom Kuyper will be airing on 1580 AM The Fanatic as well as online via The Fanatic website or mobile app. The pregame show will start 15 minutes before tip and conclude with a postgame show featuring comments from head coach
Dan Majerle.
GCU QUICK NOTES:
- Saturday's game will be the final game of the Grand Canyon Classic series. The Lopes are joined in the series by Robert Morris, Little Rock, Norfolk State and San Diego. GCU and San Diego are each 3-0 in the Grand Canyon Classic.
- The Lopes look to start the season 5-0 for the first time since 2015-16, when GCU won their first six games of the season. They improved to 4-0 on the season with a 25-point win over Norfolk State.
- With the win on Saturday night, the Lopes extended their active winning streak to 11 games, tied for the longest current streak in the nation. As of Saturday, GCU is currently tied with last year's NCAA Champion, North Carolina.
- At 55.8 points per game, the GCU defense ranks 12th in the country in scoring defense.
- Dating back to last season, the Lopes have a seven-game winning streak at GCU Arena and have won 18 of their last 19 home games.
- With 15 points against Norfolk State, Casey Benson scored in double figures in three consecutive games for the first time in his collegiate career.
- The Lopes received a NLI from Tim Finke, a 6-6 four-star guard out of Champaign (Ill.) High School last week. As a junior, Finke averaged 19.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists.
- Since 2015-16 GCU is 24-2 when allowing 61 points or less.
- With 14 and 12 points on Monday respectively, freshmen Roberts Blumbergs and Alessandro Lever recorded their first double-digit scoring games of their young collegiate careers.
- As of Saturday, the Lopes are one of only 38 remaining unbeaten teams in NCAA play.
