The Grand Canyon women's basketball program travels to Seattle U to meet the Redhawks on Saturday, Jan. 21. Tip is set for 5 p.m. MST.
After a key victory over UTRGVÂ last weekend, GCU looks to pick up its second straight win in Seattle.Â

GCU came from behind to defeat UT Rio Grande Valley 60-59 in the final seconds.Â

Marina Laramie for a team-leading 20 points on the day, marking the first time two Lopes have cracked the 20 point mark in the same game this year.Â
It was a back- and-forth battle to finish out the first half, with both teams working defensively to only score a combined 16 points. UTRGV was able to pull ahead in the last two minutes off four straight free throws to lead the Lopes 24-20.The Lopes struggled on offense until the 4th period where they would rally to overcome the deficit.
UTRGV drained a triple for the first shot of the 4th Quarter while the Lopes struggled to find the net at first. With just over six minutes to go, the Lopes took off on an 8-0 run to finally pull ahead of the Vaqueros 52-50. It was a back and forth point battle all the way up until the buzzer. Massaquoi soared to grab the UTRGV board to give the Lopes one final opportunity with 17 seconds on the clock. With a beautifully drawn up play, Mobley secured the game-winning layup at 13 seconds to carry the Lopes into a 60-59 lead over the Vaqueros.

1. This season, the Lopes have been nearly perfect in games decided by 1-5 points. Currently 5-1 in the category, GCU picked up another key victory last Saturday after defeating UTRGVÂ in the final seconds of the contest, downing the Vaqueros by just one point. The Lopes defeated Denver (3), Idaho (4), Florida Atlantic (5) and Southern Utah (3).Their lone loss in the category came at Hawai'i (4).Â

2. Since returning to the court after an ankle injury, Laramie has performed well. Through WAC contests she's averaged 18.3 points per game and 7. 3 boards per game. Overall, she is currently averaging 20.0 points per game good for No.16 in the NCAA. She currently leads the conference in scoring by 4.3 points.Â

3.With a WAC leading 8.8 boards per game and a total of 123, Massaquoi has embraced her starting role as the team's leading rebounder. On the season, she has 46 offensive rebounds and 77 defensive boards. Against UTRGV, she recorded a career high 12 rebounds, pulling down the final board that gave the Lopes possession with seconds on the clock.
4. With four Lopes sitting in the top-3 in the WAC in their respective categories and three Lopes leading the conference in scoring, rebounds and assist/turnover ratio, GCU continues to impress on the court. Laramie continues to lead the WAC with 20.0 ppg. Massaquoi continues to maintain a WAC leading 8.8 rpg. Marcos-Canedo sits atop the leader boards with a 2.4 assist/turnover ratio allowing 24 turnovers through 58 assists. Both Gajewski and
Casey Rarrick lead the conference n 3-point FG made, tied for 2.5 per game. Â
Aniya Baker sits in the top 2 with 4.2 assists per game.Â

5. GCU has been consistent from long range on the season, with 121 baskets from beyond the arc, the Lopes are averaging 7.6 treys per game. GCU leads the WAC with a .353 3-point FG percentage. Gajewski currently sits at No.31 in the nation with a 42.7 3-point FG scoring mark.Â
Settle U Notables
The Redhawks are currently 6-12 on the year. They are undefeated in WAC play at 3-0 with wins over CSUB (54-47), UMKC (75-65) and Chicago State (64-51).
They are currently averaging 60.8 points per game with 36.5 rebounds per game. Alexis Montgomery leads the squad in scoring with 15.7 points per game, she also has a team-leading 7.1 boards per contest. Kaylee Best is also putting up 13.7 points per contest.Â
GCU will meet Seattle U for the ninth time in program history. Seattle U holds the advantage in the all-time series at 3-5. GCU swept Seattle U last season for the first time in conference action. In their last meeting, GCU defeated the Redhawks at 60-54.Â
