The Grand Canyon men's basketball team continues conference play as the Lopes host Seattle U on Saturday. Tip-off from GCU Arena is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MST. The game will be televised locally on 3TV and online at GCU.tv.
GCU fans can listen live as Michael Potter and Tom Kuyper will be airing on Fox Sports 910 AM or the iHeart Radio App. The pregame show will start 15 minutes before tip and conclude with a postgame show featuring comments from head coach
Dan Majerle.
- Grand Canyon enters the contest having won seven of its last nine contests.
- Grand Canyon hosts Seattle U at GCU Arena where they have won eight straight over the last month and are 9-2 on the season.
- The Lopes outscored San Diego Christian 47-25 in the second half to come away with a resounding 32-point win, 90-58, at GCU Arena on Tuesday night. Joshua Braun led GCU with 20 points.
- DeWayne Russell leads the WAC in both scoring and assists, averaging 22.9 points per game while dishing out an average of 4.9 assists per game. Russell led the WAC in assists in 2015-16.
- Braun and Russell rank first and third in the WAC in scoring in conference play, averaging 21.0 and 19.7 points, respectively. In conference-only play, Russell also leads in assists (8.0) and minutes played (39.3), while Kerwin Smith has the top field goal percentage (.750).
- With Russell's 17 points against the Hawks on Tuesday, he has now scored in double-figures in 22-straight games, the most by a GCU player in the Division I era.
- Russell is averaging 22.9 points per game, ranking seventh in the NCAA. Central Michigan's Marcus Keene leads the country (28.7).
- Russell ranks third in the country in minutes played, averaging 37.8 per game. Russell has played at least 39 minutes in 10-of-17 games this season.
- Gerard Martin is the only GCU player to start and play in all 19 games this season. Russell and Braun have started every game they've played, but each has missed time.
- Martin is tied for the WAC lead in steals (1.8), while Vernon ranks fourth in field goal percentage (.543) and fifth in rebounding (6.8). The Lopes lead the conference with a +2.26 turnover margin.
- Cameron Dollar is in his eighth season as head of Seattle U, compiling a 103-130 record in 233 games at the helm. Dollar was a member of UCLA's 1995 national championship team as a player. He also coached seven seasons as an assistant at Washington.
- The Redhawks earned their first WAC win of the season with a 65-50 victory over Chicago State Jan. 14 at KeyArena. Matej Kavas led Seattle U in scoring with a career-high 24 points. Brendan Westendorf leads the team with 15.4 ppg on the season.
