- Grand Canyon seeks its first true road win of their season after dropping their first five on the road. The Lopes won last season at UTRGV Fieldhouse, overcoming a 19-point deficit in the second half to win 64-58.
- Joshua Braun was the leading scorer in the game a year ago, finishing with 20 points, including 14 in the second half run.
- The Lopes lost their first conference game of the season on Thursday to New Mexico State. Trailing by as many as 18, GCU cut the lead to 2 in the second half but weren't able to get the win.
- DeWayne Russell had a game-high 20 points vs. the Aggies. He has now scored in double-figures in 20-straight games, the first GCU player to achieve the feat in the Division I era.
- Russell is averaging 23.7 ppg, ranking fourth in the NCAA, behind Central Michigan's Marcus Keene (29.3), Montana State's Tyler Hall (24.1), and Valparaiso's Alec Peters (23.8).
- Russell ranks third in the country in minutes played, averaging 38.2 minutes per game. Russell has played all 40 minutes in seven of his 15 games this season.
- Gerard Martin is the only GCU players to start and play in all 17 games this season. Russell and Braun have started every game they've played, but have each missed time.
- Martin leads the WAC in steals (1.9), while Russell ranks second in the WAC in assists (4.9) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2). Keonta Vernon ranks fifth in rebounding (6.6). The Lopes lead the conference with a +2.41 turnover margin.
- Lew Hill is in his first season as head coach at UTRGV. He has served as an assistant at South Alabama, Southeast Missouri State, East Carolina, Texas A&M, UNLV and Oklahoma.
- The Vaqueros are 6-2 at home this season, after falling to CSU Bakersfield 88-81 on Thursday night. The loss ended UTRGV's six-game home winning streak.
- UTRGV features the high scoring duo of Nick Dixon and Antonio Green, each averaging 17.4 points per game. Dixon also leads the team in rebounding at 5.0 per game. Green ranks No. 1 in the country in 3-pointers, with 81 made on the season.
