The Fall season will officially kick off on Monday, Sept. 12, for the Grand Canyon women's golf team as the team will play in its first tournament at the Hobble Creek Invitational hosted by Utah Valley. This will be the first of five tournaments that GCU will compete in during the Fall.
Â
"After a few short weeks together as a team we are eager to get things going this Fall," head coach
Lauren Giesecke said. "The Fall is a great time for our players to work on their game and improve in preparation for the Spring."
Â
Competing in the Hobble Creek Invitational for the Lopes will be
Charatta Thongbai,
Amy Ruelas,
Kylie Fong,
Carolina Sandstrom and
Deanna Salvatori. GCU will face six teams from the Big Sky Conference, including in-state opponent Northern Arizona and also fellow WAC member Missouri-Kansas City. For the first round the Lopes will be paired with players from North Dakota.
Â
Since school has started for GCU on Aug. 29th, the Lopes have been on the course since gearing up for the season. This will be the first of nine states GCU will travel to throughout 2016-17 as the team returns one All-WAC selection in Salvatori. The Lopes also return four All-WAC Academic honorees while adding freshman
Carolina Sandstrom and junior transfer Leleage Meredith to the squad. Â
Â
The tournament will begin on Monday and will conclude on Tuesday, the 13th.Â
