PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team went 2-1 in its own tournament to capture the GCU Tournament by virtue of a head-to-head tiebreaker.

GCU went 2-1 in the tournament, along with EWU. The Lopes earned the championship with its tiebreaking sweep over EWU earlier on Saturday. EKU and CSUF each went 1-2.
The Lopes put up a strong fight in the first set, but ultimately fell to the Titans 27-29. After getting off to a dominating early lead, it looked like GCU was going to walk away with a victory, but the Titans came back from behind and tied up the match at 21-21.
It was a gritty battle to the end and both teams were neck-in-neck until the final rally where CSU Fullerton won the set by two.
It was another close contest, but GCU bounced back after a tough first loss with a solid 25-21 victory on the second set of the evening to tie 1-1. Both teams moved around the court showing off their powerhouse attacks, with GCU racking up an impressive 15 kills and .227 attack percentage over the Titans' eight kills and .056 attack percentage.
The third set was a back and forth battle, but with the Lopes unable to keep the Titans at bay, the result was a disappointing 22-25 loss, falling 1-2. However, GCU did not go down without a fight.
Heidi Carpenter pulled through with an outstanding ten assists and
Natalie Tardy added on another six kills to total a striking 16 in three sets.
The determining fourth set was claimed by CSU Fullerton after GCU fell 16-25. The Lopes were only trailing by a few points for most of the set, but the Titans managed to pull ahead towards the end. Despite the outcome of the match, the highlights were

Kaira Moss with a .333 attack percentage.
