PHOENIX- The Grand Canyon women's soccer team returns home to host Big 12 opponent Oklahoma on Sunday, Sept. 18. The Lopes will welcome their first power five conference program to the new GCU Stadium this weekend.
GCU will look to extend its two-match home win streak thisSunday as they meet the Sooners after defeating UIC 4-0 in the NAU Mountain Classic.
GCU Notables
- GCU split Week 4 and improved to 3-5-0 on the season.
- In the NAU Mountain Classic, the Lopes defeated UIC in a 4-0 shutout Sunday afternoon and fell to New Mexico, 2-0 Friday.
- GCU scored four goals through 12 shots on goal in Week 4.
- Anyssa De Vera, Milla Benedetti, Brylee Hawkins and McKenzie Cook scored goals against the Flames.
- Blakely Fraasch made the start in goal for GCU and had five stops on the weekend.
- The Lopes picked up their third shutout in four contests.
- GCU has defeated opponents by a four-goal or more margin for the second time this year.
- Milla Benedetti leads the team with three goals.
Scouting Oklahoma
- The Sooner are currently 5-2-1 the season.
- Oklahoma swept Week 4 after defeating Tulsa 3-2 in overtime and shutout Memphis 2-0 last weekend in the Tulsa Classic.
- Liz Keester leads the Sooners with three goals through eight shots on goal and three assists. On Sunday, Keester scored the game winner off a forward pass in the 55th minute as the team defeated Memphis 2-0.
- Kassidie Stade has started in goal for the Sooners this season. She has collected three shots with 25 saves and a .97 goal against average mark this season.
