PHOENIX – Head coach Derek leader has added a member to his coaching staff as Grand Canyon women's soccer welcomes Jordan Day, as the newest addition to the coaching staff. Day makes her way to Phoenix after an illustrious playing career as a goalkeeper at Texas A&M and most recently was an assistant for the Aggies program.
"Our second great addition to the coaching staff is Jordan Day," Leader said. "She comes to us with a superb playing background and will be a great mentor to all of our student athletes. We are thrilled to bring her back home and have her join our new staff at Grand Canyon University."
Day will primarily work with GCU's goalkeepers and will also assist Leader and assistant coach
Malorie Rutledge in recruiting.
"I'm really excited to be here at GCU. Coaching has always been a dream, so to come back to Arizona and be able to do that with this program is an amazing feeling," Day said. "I feel very blessed to have this opportunity and can't wait to see what the future holds."
Day was an exceptional goalkeeper during her time at Texas A&M where she played in 86 career matches including 79 starts. She ended her career with a .795 save percentage, winning 59 career matches ranking third all-time in Texas A&M history. Day is a three-time All-SEC selection and was an NSCAA All-South Region First Team selection in 2012.
"GCU and Coach Leader have brought in a great young addition to their women's soccer staff," Texas A&M head coach G Guerrieri said, who coached day as a member of the Aggies. "Jordan Day is a kind and insightful coach who brings a great deal of big game and clinical experience with her."
As Leader looks to build a program, he has added a coach that help built Texas A&M to the national powerhouse that they are. Day shares the school record for most career shutouts with 32 clean sheets while leading the team in goals-against average, saves and wins in all four seasons with the Aggies.
"Jordan has been a big part of the recent success our program at Texas A&M," Guerrieri said. "She was a fantastic player with a steady disposition, who helped us win championships and compete at the highest national level."
Leader has built an exceptional coaching staff that has the ability to provide knowledge and advice as both Day and Rutledge played Division I soccer at the highest level as members of Texas A&M and Louisiana State University.
It will be a homecoming for Day as she returns to the state of Arizona, where she attended high school at Basha high school in Gilbert, Ariz. It will also be a family affair at GCU as Jordan's younger brother, Kendyl Day, is the current goalkeeper for the GCU men's soccer team.
