GCU continues winning streak against CSU Bakersfield, CSUN

PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon University beach volleyball team has now won seven straight matches after showcasing their talent in Bakersfield, Calif. on Saturday, clinching two more wins against CSU Bakersfield and CSUN. The Lopes improved to 8-1 for the season.

"All of our teams competed and played well for our first set of road matches," head coach Kristen Rohr said. "They really stepped up. We are starting to see players develop and overcome adversity."

GCU was off to a great start with victories from Courts 4 and 5. Chloe Jenkins and Rebecca Conrad on Court 4 secured a win over Sophie Flemion and Kortney Freeland with scores of 21-13, 21-14. Kami Dickerson and Brooke Razo had an impressive performance on Court 5 over Katie Dunbar-Lowe and Amanda Schoene, dominating both sets at 21-8.

Jordyn Sanchez and Emilee Erichsen secured a 21-18, 21-16 win over Kelsee Sawyer and Kayla Tinker, followed by Molly Turner and Aleksandra Wachowicz on Court 2 with a 21-16, 21-13 victory over Jocelyn Rodriguez and Edithza Urias. No. 1 pairing Mackenzie Phelps and Shannon Dugan closed out their sets against Sydney Haynes and Carol Grasso at 21-19, 21-12 for an overall 5-0 win for GCU.

To kick off the second and final match of the day against CSUN, Jordyn Sanchez and Emilee Erichsen took a 21-12, 21-16 victory over Erin Indermill and Aeryn Owens on Court 4. The teams tied up 1-1 after GCU's Kami Dickerson and Brooke Razo fell short on Court 5, but the Lopes quickly regained the lead. After a close three-set match on Court 3, Chloe Jenkins and Rebecca Conrad finished it off with a 20-22, 21-13, 15-7 win. The No. 1 and No. 2 pairings walked away with strong victories of their own, capping off the match against CSUN 4-1.

"We enjoyed playing at Bakersfield," Rohr continued. The venue was nice and had a little deeper sand which required us to make some adjustments. Now, we look forward to moving onto Huntington for our next set of competitions!"
