The Grand Canyon men's basketball team returns home to host the University of Missouri-Kansas City on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016 at Grand Canyon University Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT. Fans attending the game are encouraged to wear their neon-colored clothing as they celebrate Neon Night.
The Lopes look to extend their winning streak to four games and sweep the season series from UMKC after defeating the Kangaroos 85-78 on Jan. 23. The Lopes hold a 3-2 advantage in five previous matchups between the two schools. Thursday's game will be broadcast live on COX 7 Arizona as well as being featured as the WAC Game of the Week on the WAC Digital Network.
In their last meeting, the Lopes relied on the hot shooting of
Joshua Braun, who tied his career-high with six three-pointers and recorded his fourth double-double of the season, while
Ryan Majerle was a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown as GCU outlasted UMKC up in Kansas City.
Ryan Majerle's hot shooting was on display once again last week, as the senior scored a season-best 16 points as the Lopes were able to avenge a conference loss to Seattle.
"Our guys bounced back and did a good job," head coach
Dan Majerle said after the game. "When Ryan and our bench guys come in like that, especially Ryan, it gives us a boost.
The Roos arrive in Phoenix coming off their biggest win of the season, a 75-58 victory over UT Rio Grande Valley on Feb. 13. UMKC has struggled in their 12 games on the road this season, compiling a 1-11 road record. Martez Harrison has led the Roos this season, averaging 15.4 points per game, the third-best mark in the WAC while also ranking fifth in steals and sixth in assists. Shayock Shayock is the leading rebounder for the Roos, averaging 5.6 boards per game.
"There's a lot to play for,"
Dan Majerle added after the Lopes win in Seattle. "We just have to keep going back game after game and get our mojo back a little bit and start playing. There's a lot of season left. This has been a great ride, obviously, we're 22-4, but why not win 25 or 26 games?"
After Thursday night's game, the Lopes will honor their seniors in the final regular season home game with Grand Canyon taking on Chicago State on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. MT as part of their Homecoming game.
