The Grand Canyon men's basketball team looks to win their fifth game in a row at GCU Arena, as they host Arkansas - Pine Bluff on Thursday, Dec. 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MST and will be broadcasted live in the Phoenix area on CW6 and streamed online at
GCU.tv and ESPN3. Barry Buetel will be providing play-by-play with analyst Scott Williams and Kate Longworth on the sideline.
GCU fans can listen live on the radio as Michael Potter and Tom Kuyper will be airing on KFYI 2 1230 AM or on the iHeart Radio App. The pregame show will start 15 minutes before tip and conclude with a postgame show featuring comments from head coach
Dan Majerle.
- Grand Canyon looks to win their fifth home game in a row as they face Arkansas-Pine Bluff for the first time in program history.
- The Lopes are 7-0 all-time against SWAC teams. They have played three SWAC opponents this season.
- GCU improved to 5-5 and 5-2 at home with a 63-53 win over Alcorn State on Tuesday night. DeWayne Russell led all scorers with 27 points.
- Russell has scored in double-figures in 15-straight games, the first GCU player to achieve the feat in the Division I era.
- Russell was 13-for-13 from the free-throw line against Alcorn State, marking the most free-throws made without a miss in the Division I era at GCU. Joshua Braun went 12-for-12 on Feb. 18, 2016 in a home win vs. UMKC.
- Russell ranks third in the country in minutes played, averaging 37.9 minutes per game.
- Shooting only 36.4 percent for the game, GCU relied heavily on their defense on Tuesday night, holding Alcorn State to 34.5 percent shooting. It was the first game this season the Lopes have won when not shooting at least 40 percent from the field.
- Oscar Frayer and Martin are the only two GCU players to start and play in all 12 games this season. Russell, Joshua Braun and Darion Clark have started every game they've played, but have each missed time.
- Russell is averaging 24.6 ppg, ranking third in NCAA behind Central Michigan's Marcus Keene (31.9) and Valparaiso's Alec Peters (25.6). He leads the WAC by 4.4 points per game. Russell's scoring average is 11.1 points above his career average.
- Russell ranks second in the WAC in assist to turnover ratio (2.3) and is second in assists per game (5.1). Darion Clark ranks fifth in the conference in rebounding (7.1), and Gerard Martin ranks second in steals (1.83).
- George Ivory is in his ninth his second season as head coach at UAPB, compiling a 99-169 record through 268 games.
- UAPB leads the SWAC in field-goal percentage defense (.432) and 3-point field-goal percentage defense (.280).
- Ghiavonni Robinson leads the Golden Lions in scoring averaging 12.1 points per game.
