The Grand Canyon men's basketball team looks to win their fourth game in a row at GCU Arena, as they host Alcorn State on Tuesday, Dec. 20. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MST and will be broadcasted live in the Phoenix area on CW6 and streamed online at
GCU.tv and ESPN3. Barry Buetel will be providing play-by-play with analyst Scott Williams and Kate Longworth on the sideline.
GCU fans can listen live on the radio as Michael Potter and Tom Kuyper will be airing on KFYI 2 1230 AM or on the iHeart Radio App. The pregame show will start 15 minutes before tip and conclude with a postgame show featuring comments from head coach
Dan Majerle.
- Grand Canyon faces Alcorn State for the second consecutive year at home, and third all-time, having won the prior two meetings including a 79-46 win last November. DeWayne Russell had a game-high 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
- The Lopes are 6-0 all-time against SWAC teams. They will play SWAC opponents three times this season.
- GCU improved to 6-5 and 4-2 at home with a 72-62 win over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday night. Russell and Gerard Martin played all 40 minutes of the contest.
- Russell ranks fourth in the country in minutes played, averaging 38.1 minutes per game.
- Following Tuesday's game, the Lopes will have two games left of their four-game homestand before traveling to Riverside.
- Oscar Frayer and Martin are the only two GCU players to start and play in all 11 games this season. Russell, Joshua Braun and Darion Clark have started every game they've played, but have each missed time.
- Russell's 42 points vs. Louisville is tied for the second-most points scored by an individual this season, and were the second-most points scored against Louisville in their program's history.
- Russell is averaging 24.3 ppg, ranking third in NCAA behind Central Michigan's Marcus Keene (30.8) and Valparaiso's Alec Peters (25.6). He leads the WAC by 5.0 points per game. Russell's scoring average is 10.0 points above his career average.
- Russell leads the WAC in assist to turnover ratio (2.4) and is second in assists per game (5.1). Darion Clark ranks fourth in the conference in rebounding (7.1), and Gerard Martin ranks tied for second in steals (1.7).
- Montez Robinson is in his second season as head coach at Alcorn State, compiling a 17-22 record through 39 games.
- The Alcorn State bench scored 33 of their 50 points in Sunda's 74-50 loss to Georgia Tech at McCamis Pavilion in Atlanta.
- The Braves are averaging 88.0 ppg in their two wins this season, but just 51.0 ppg in their seven losses.
