The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team dropped a Western Athletic Conference match to UMKC 25-18, 25-20, 25-14 on Thursday night in Antelope Gym.
Randahl Powers led the Lopes with nine kills, while adding four digs.
Leigh Stonerook added eight kills and three digs while
Jordyn Sanchez finished with six kills and a team-high 10 digs.
Heidi Carpenter led the Lopes with 27 assists and five digs.
UMKC hit at a .361 clip, including a .565 average in the third set. The Roos were led by Madison Mosier with 12 kills on .526 hitting.
UMKC outhit GCU .361 - .109.
In the first set, GCU pulled within 10-9 after a kill by
Maria Adams. The Lopes were within 12-11 before UMKC went on a 10-1 run to lead by nine. The Roos would take the set 25-18.
In the second set, UMKC scored 10 of the first 14 points of the set. GCU chipped away and pulled within 21-18 after a kill by
Emily Christensen. The Lopes got within 22-20 after a Roos error, but UMKC held off the Lopes for the 25-20 result.
UMKC had 14 kills against one error in the final set, hitting over .500 to earn the sweep.
Grand Canyon is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Chicago State at 1 PM in Antelope Gym.
