DENVER – Grand Canyon redshirt senior guard
DeWayne Russell has been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 14-20. This is his first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor.
The Peoria, Ariz., native averaged 26.5 points, 8.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game over two games last week. He shot 54.1 percent from the field, 55.6 percent from three-point range and 72.7 percent from the free throw line on the week and had a 4.25 assist/turnover ratio.
Russell made his season debut against Albany and set a career high with 30 points on 11-of-19 shooting while handing out 10 assists, his sixth career double-digit assist effort. He followed it up with 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the floor and dished out seven more assists in a win over Marist on Sunday as the Lopes won the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament Springfield Bracket championship.
