The Grand Canyon men's basketball seeks their first win of the 2016-17 season as they head to Uncasville, Ct., for two weekend games to wrap up the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament. The Lopes (0-2) will first face Albany (2-1) on Saturday at 4 p.m. MST, and conclude the tournament by facing Marist (0-3). Both games will be Mohegan Sun Arean and will be broadcasted live on ESPN3 with Pat O'Keefe providing play-by-play with analyst Rob Kennedy.
GCU fans can listen live as Michael Potter and Tom Kuyper will be airing on KFYI 2 1230 AM or on the iHeart Radio App. Pregame show will start 15 minutes before tip for each game and conclude with a postgame show featuring comments from head coach
Dan Majerle.
- Saturday and Sunday's neutral-site games at the Mohegan Sun Arena conclude GCU's play in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament.
- The Lopes fell to 0-2 for the first time since the 2013-14 season following an 85-76 loss to Penn State Tuesday night.
- GCU welcomes back senior DeWayne Russell, who had to sit out the first two games due to an NCAA ruling following his transfer from NAU in 2013-14.
- Darion Clark recorded his third double-double of his career with 12 points and 14 rebounds at Penn State. Clark ranks third in the WAC in rebounding, averaging 8.5 per game.
- Joshua Braun recorded his 19th 20-plus point game of his career with 25 points at Penn State. Braun's five 3-pointers were one shy of his career-best in a game, which he's done twice.
- Shaq Carr leads the WAC in assists, averaging 6.5 per game.
- Carr, Braun and Oscar Frayer rank 1-3 in minutes played in the WAC.
- Albany head coach Will Brown is in his 16th season with the Great Danes, leading them to five conference championships and five NCAA Tournament appearances. Brown's squad finished 24-9 in 2015-16 and fell to Ohio in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational.
- Albany ranks No. 19 in the country, averaging 48.3 rebounds per game. Marist ranks No. 335, averaging just 28.0.
- Albany had seven players score in double-digits on Wednesday night as they won their home openers vs. Oneonta, 97-56.
- Marist head coach Mike Maker is in his third season, leading the Red Foxes to a 7-23 record a year ago, in which 60 percent of the team's minutes played and points scored were accumulated by freshman. They return 90 percent of their scoring from a year ago.
- Marist opened the season with losses to two Top-25 teams, No. 1 Duke and No. 23/24 Rhode Island. Senior guard Khallid Hart leads the Red Foxes in scoring, averaging 17.7 points per game in their first three games of the season.
