As Grand Canyon University strives to develop its student-athletes not only on the field, but in the classroom, the GCU athletics department has opened its Student-Athlete Development Center where GCU athletes can take care of their studies and receive tutoring assistance.
Â
"One of our goals at GCU is to help our student-athletes graduate and prepare for life after sport," Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development Jason Linders said. "Our new facility will help improve their student-athlete experience by providing a place where they can have objective-based study hall, meet with their academic coordinators and mentors, as well as obtain the support they need to be successful in the classroom."
Â
Located beneath the grandstand of GCU Stadium, the Student-Athlete Development Center provides student-athletes the opportunity to meet with the Academics and Student-Athlete Development staff that will assist them with degree program selection, graduation planning, career development planning, study skills and learning strategies.
Â
"The Student-Athlete Development Center helps us provide the necessary resources needed to support the total development of our student-athletes, including academic achievement, personal development, community engagement, and career readiness," Linders added.
Â
The center provides students a place to come and take care of their classwork as the center includes computer work stations, a study lounge along with tutor spaces for individual or group tutoring opportunities.
Â
"Having an academic center on campus is extremely helpful with our busy schedules as student-athletes," Vice President of GCU SAAC Chloe Jenkins said. "To have access to such great tools for success only betters the quality of our learning here at GCU."
