DENVER- Grand Canyon University cross country runners
Samuel Proctor and
Kelsi Klotter have been named Western Athletic Conference Runners of the Week, respectively, for the week of Aug. 31-Sept. 6 as announced by the conference Tuesday. This marks the first accolade for both athletes in their careers at GCU.
Proctor, a redshirt-sophomore from South Royalton, Vt., posted his highest finish as an Antelope, beating his personal record by two minutes to finish seventh out of 104 competitors. The redshirt-sophomore led the Lopes to their fastest finish in the George Kyle Classic, finishing less than a minute behind third place Arizona State.
Klotter, a senior from Eugene, Ore., finished 10th in the Northern Arizona George Kyle Classic with a time of 15:46.2, for her fastest finish in the race. GCU has competed in the competition all four years she has been on the squad.
GCU will continue their season on Sept. 19 at the Mustang Challenge, hosted by The Master's College in Santa Clarita, Calif. A full recap of the event will be available at
