PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon University men's and women's cross country teams are preparing for their third meet of the season this weekend in Lawrence, Kans. The Rim Rock Farm Classic is hosted by Kansas and this will be the team's second year competing in the meet. Last season, both teams placed fifth.
Two weeks ago, the Lopes competed in the Mustang Challenge in Santa Clarita, Calif., where both teams averaged 45 seconds faster than their times from last year.
The men's squad was led to their fifth place finish by
Samuel Proctor who took fourth with a time of 25:22.93 on the 8k. He beat his time from last season by nearly three minutes.
Jose Retana placed 18
th (26:02.04), while
Matthew Jackson finished 27
th (26:10.29).
For the women's squad, the team also posted a fifth place finish.
Kelsi Klotter finished seventh with a time of 18:00.74 in the 5k, besting her time on the course by over a minute.
Emily Wilkinson posted a 17
th place finish (18:18.44), while
Mariah Montoya placed 26
th (18:34.87).
