Tyler HagstromGrand Canyon University head volleyball coach Kris Naber has added Tyler Hagstrom and Alaina Bergsma Coble to the program'sAlaina Bergsma Coblecoaching staff.
Hagstrom will join veteran coach Megan Taylor as a full-time assistant. Bergsma Coble will be a graduate manager.
"Tyler brings with him Division I experience and a solid background in the Southern California club system," said Naber. "He is a former libero at Cal Baptist and he will be a huge asset in the gym with our defensive side of the game as well as our primary recruiter, evaluating and recruiting top athletes that will help move our program to the next level."
Hagstrom served the past two seasons as an assistant coach at UC Irvine, overseeing the Anteaters individual and team defensive schemes, as well as responsibilities with scouting reports.
Prior to joining the UCI program, Hagstrom coached at Pacifica High School, where he was the head coach for both the boys and girls varsity teams. On the club volleyball level, Hagstrom was the head coach of the girls' 17's-1 team of the Saddleback Valley Volleyball Club. He was also an assistant coach with the HBC Boys Volleyball Club, where he helped the 17's-1 team to a No. 1 national ranking.
At Cal Baptist, Hagstrom was the starting libero for three NAIA Championship teams. He led the 2005 NAIA National Championship Tournament field in digs and broke the career dig record at CBU in 2007.
He prepped at Fountain Valley High School and was the starting opposite on the 2001 team that placed first in the Sunset League and advanced to the semi-finals of the CIF Division I playoffs. He was voted all-league first-team and All-CIF third team in 2003 as a starting opposite and setter.
"The training and playing experience that Alaina will bring to our program is so exciting," said Naber of the program's GA. "Having had a huge amount of success while competing in the Pac 12 and the training opportunities she has had both internationally and with Team USA, the knowledge she will bring into the gym will advance our girls that much faster in the game."
Bergsma Coble is from Chandler, Ariz. And prepped at Valley Christian High School where she was an All-American. She went on to do the same in college at the University of Oregon, where she earned the AVCA National Player of the Year Award in 2012. That season, she was also a first-team All-American and the Pac-12 Player of the Year. She was a third-team All-American in 2011.
As a freshman, she went to Loyola Marymount and was named the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year.
Following college, Bergsma Coble played internationally and became a part of Team USA Volleyball in 2013.
