GCU Wrestling Adds Five More For 2015-16

Grand Canyon wrestling has added five more new faces for the 2015-16 season.
Head coach Jon Sioredas has announced the addition of Oklahoma University transfer Cale Wilson, along with four freshmen, Arizona standouts Blake Monty and Sergio Chavez along with Californians Kenneth Moore and Zackary Velasquez.
Wilson, from Sallisaw, Okla., is the second transfer from Oklahoma to join Sioredas at GCU. Danny Chaid (285) came aboard second semester of last season, and redshirted the remainder of the 2015 portion of the season. Wilson (184) is a two-time Oklahoma state champion and will be a sophomore at GCU.
Chavez won two state titles from Seton Catholic in Chandler, Ariz. Chavez is projected to wrestle at 184. Monty, projected at 157 or 165, was ranked No. 20 in the nation in his weight class by Intermat Wrestling. He is from Mesa Mountain View High School.
Velasquez, a 157-class wrestler, was an undefeated state champion at Ponderosa High School in Ione, Calif. He was ranked No. 19 by TheOpenMat.com. Moore, a 174-class wrestler, was a fourth-place finisher in the California state tournament and is from San Diego and Hoover High School.
The recent additions join November signees, Ralphy Tovar (149), Juaquin Olivas (133) and Trayton Libolt (125), along with Chaid (285) as newcomers on the mat for the 2015-16 season.
