The Grand Canyon University women's tennis team (9-6) defeated Chicago State (2-17) with a solid 6-1 play at Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Ariz., to open their final weekend of home matches.
In doubles, the squad won on all courts.
Lana Macukat and
Lana Rinaldi won their match 8-1 to open the day.
Priscilla Annoual and
Tatum Prudhomme earned their seventh straight win on court one. Closing out the sweep was the 8-6 victory by
Alexandra Petrzalkova and
Silvia Tumova .
"The girls started off the evening great, once again sweeping the doubles matches," said head coach Greg Prudhomme. "That's always a good way to start a match and got the momentum going."
The Lopes went 5-1 in singles, with each of the victories being earned in straight sets. Annoual extended her win streak to eight with her win over Hanna Pangestu 6-1, 6-1. Prudhomme, Macukat, and Rinaldi each picked up their fifth consecutive wins.
"Chicago State put up some really good fights in a number of the sets in the singles matches," explained Prudhomme. "In most cases we were able to fend them off and get the win. I was really happy with their performance to get another win in the WAC and to keep the winning streak going. We're looking forward to a tough battle tomorrow with New Mexico State."
