Grand Canyon improved to .500 for the season and moved over the .500 mark in the Western Athletic Conference with a 57-42 victory over Kansas City at GCU Arena Saturday.
The Antelopes are 13-13 overall and 7-6 in the WAC. They finish the regular season at Seattle U next Saturday at 5 p.m. (Arizona Time). UMKC dropped to 6-22 and 4-9. The Lopes swept the season series and are 4-0 all-time against the 'Roos.
The 42 points were the least given up by the Lopes this season. They gave up only 44 in an 87-44 victory over San Diego Christian on Jan. 3. GCU junior
Cheyenne Hedrington had a career-high 17 points and added a team-best nine rebounds, including six offensive boards.

The Lopes helped force 21 UMKC turnovers while committing only five. GCU outscored UMKC 25-2 off turnovers and 8-0 on fastbreak points.
Astrea Reed and
August Touchard each scored 10 points. Reed added six rebounds, while
Devyn Edwards sparked the Lopes off the bench with four steals, two assists and five points.
UMKC cut the GCU lead to six, 46-40 with 3:14 to go, but the Lopes answered with a Touchard three-pointer and 8-for-8 free-throw shooting in the final minute of the game. After chopping the lead to six, the 'Roos didn't score again until a layup by Grace Mitchell with only :14 to go.
Aries Washington led UMKC in scoring with 14. Mitchell had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The crowd of 1,087 was the Lopes third 1,000-plus crowd of the season. GCU wore pink uniforms for their annual Breast Cancer Awareness game.
