Grand Canyon University senior second baseman
Chad De La Guerra has been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week, for games contested Feb. 13-15. This is the second weekly honor for De La Guerra, having also taken the award once last season. In addition, De La Guerra was tabbed a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by
Collegiate Baseball. The
Collegiate Baseball site
selected 11 players across the country.
Â
De La Guerra hit .538 (7-for-13), to lead Grand Canyon to a perfect a 3-0 start to the 2015 season. His big game came yesterday in the Antelopes' 30-7 win over Bradley. De La Guerra went 5-for-6 with a pair of home runs at the plate, becoming the first player to record a multi-home run game since P.J. Garcia did so against Colorado Mesa on Feb. 4, 2012. The reigning WAC batting champion also collected nine RBI and scored five times Sunday. His nine RBI are two short of the school record and his five hits and five runs are each one shy of tying the school record.
Â
In the three games, De La Guerra had three home runs, seven runs scored and 12 RBI.
