PHOENIX -- The Grand Canyon women's basketball team returns home for the first time since November. it has been a month since the last time the Lopes have played at GCU Arena, dating back to Nov. 19th against Western State. The Antelopes will host South Alabama on Saturday, Dec. 19th, at GCU Arena during Star Wars Night. GCU will hand out 1,000 free lightsabers to fans in attendance. This will be the first of five games GCU will host at home before heading into conference play. Â
Grand Canyon will look to make it four wins in a row for the first time since 2014 when GCU ended the regular season with four straight wins over UMKC, Chicago State, New Mexico State and Texas-Pan American (Now UTRGV).Â
Grand Canyon ended its eight-game roadtrip with a 3-5 record with victories over Air Force, North Dakota State and UC Irvine. On Dec. 7,
Jessica Gajewski was named Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week after averaging 20 points, two rebounds, two assists while shooting 62.5 percent from the field at the Air Force Classic. Currently, GCU is tied for the third most wins in the WAC (5) and hold the longest winning streak currently in conference.Â

SCOUTING SOUTH ALABAMAÂ Â Â In South Alabama's eight games this season, the Jaguars have played three game away from home, posting a 1-2 record. The Jaguars are coming off a 66-30 win over William Carey 66-30. USA has been known to start fast, averaging 13.25 points in the first quarter, the most points they average in a quarter this season. Chyna Ellis was named to the Sun Belt Third Team All-Conference and she is currently averaging 5.4 points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game. In five games this season, Marquita Daniels leads USA in scoring at 9.6 points a game.Â
