PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon women's basketball team will look to carry the momentum after its first win of the season against Oral Roberts after coming back from 14-points to defeat the Golden Eagles in overtime. To close out the three-game homestand to start the season, the Antelopes will face Western State Colorado.

The Lopes are coming off a thrilling overtime victory against Oral Roberts 64-62 as GCU held ORU to just five points in the fourth quarter to force overtime. The Lopes were stifling on defense in the second half, forcing the Golden Eagles to shoot just 23.3 percent while GCU was able to convert 41.4 percent of their field goal attempts in the final 20 minutes of regulation. Grand Canyon had two players' record double-doubles in
Cheyenne Hedrington and
Zelor Massaquoi. Hedrington had a historic night, tying the school record for most rebounds recorded in a game, pulling down 19 rebounds, while also chipping in 12 points. Massaquoi was the spark GCU needed off the bench when the team was down, scoring 12 points along with 10 rebounds.
Dana Jones scored a career-high and led GCU in scoring with 18 points.

All-Time Series Grand Canyon will face Western State for the ninth time in school history, holding the 7-1 advantage all-time.

Scouting Western State Colorado The Mountaineers are a young team with six freshman on this year's squad. It will be a homecoming for two Mountaineers' as junior forward Sydnie Lengyel played at Marcos De Niza high school in Tempe, Ariz. and junior guard Erica Vasquez is from Mesa, Ariz. and attended high school at Red Mountain. Western State has dropped its first two games of the season to Colorado State and Northern Colorado, both on the road. The Mountaineers average 45 points per game and they are led by Taylor Long, a sophomore guard that has averaged 12 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest this season. In their games against Colorado State and Northern Colorado, Western State have been outrebounded 91-59 on the glass.Â
