Pencil Named Assistant Director of Compliance

PHOENIX -- After recently working in both the Big Ten and Big 12 conferences, Sherraine Pencil has been named Assistant Director of Compliance at Grand Canyon, Senior Associate A.D. for Compliance and Administration Nick Ojea announced Thursday.Â
"It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Sherraine Pencil as Assistant Director of Compliance for the Lopes' Athletics Department," Ojea said.Â

Pencil came to Grand Canyon after spending the past three years at Michigan State. She joined the Spartans as Assistant Compliance Coordinator in June of 2012. Â
Prior to her appointment at MSU, Pencil served as the Athletics Diversity Council graduate assistant at Oklahoma from 2010 to 2012 while earning her master's degree in adult and higher education-intercollegiate athletics administration; Pencil was also the governance intern at the Big Ten Conference in 2009-10. In 2011, she was a recipient of the John McLendon post-graduate scholarship.

In 2009, Pencil, a native of Toronto, Ontario, graduated from San Diego State where she also competed as a track and field student-athlete from 2005 to 2008. In her time at SDSU, Pencil was an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at the campus, conference and national levels (2007-09). Pencil was also a member of the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee (2008-09).

"As a former Division I student-athlete and experienced compliance professional, Sherraine will be a great contributor to the athletics department staff as Grand Canyon completes the full transition to Division I," Ojea said.Â
