Box Score (PDF)SEATTLE – The Grand Canyon women's soccer team played in its final road match of the season against Seattle in the cold rain to wrap up the weekend. The Antelopes scored two goals against the Redhawks but GCU fell to Seattle 3-2 to move to 6-8-1 this season.
Seattle had not allowed a goal in the last five matches and the Lopes were able to fire off 14 shots and score two goals against the Seattle defense.

The Antelopes fell behind early in the match with the Redhawks scoring in the eighth minute from Kelly Beck but the Lopes were able to respond, generating an offensive attack in the first half. GCU was able to maintain possession late in the first half and a minute before the half ended, Milla Benedetti scored to tie the match going into half. Martine Gjennestad carried the ball along the right side of the field and crossed the ball on top of the box where Benedetti went far post to score her seventh goal of the season. Gjennestad now has three points in the last three matches.

Four minutes into the second half Seattle retook the lead with a goal from Julia Moravec for the 2-1 advantage. GCU was able to apply pressure and the Lopes were unlucky when the referee missed a handball on a Seattle defender, which led to Seattle scoring on the counter-attack from Moravec for her second goal of the game.

The Lopes continued to fight and battle scoring in the 75
th minute. In her final road match at Grand Canyon, Cassie Beckwith scored after Jessica Valadez served up a ball from the backline where Beckwith drove the ball in the back of the net to make the score 3-2.

The Lopes believed they tied the score in the 85
th minute when Beckwith scored after pulling the goalkeeper out but the line official raised the offsides flag, negating the goal.

GCU will be back in action next weekend for two matches at home against Utah Valley and Seattle.Â
