The Grand Canyon University men's basketball team (8-8) will complete the non-conference portion of their schedule tomorrow, Jan. 4, when UC Riverside (7-6) makes a visit to GCU Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. Cox7 will carry the television broadcast which can also be found on www.cox7.com, beginning with their pregame show at 3:30 p.m. The game can be heard on radio on KXXT 1010 AM (also via the KXXT "TuneIn Radio" App), with GCU Alum Michael Potter calling the action alongside 'The Coach", Dan Nichols.VS. UC RIVERSIDEThis marks the 30th meeting between GCU and UC Riverside, with the Antelopes holding the 18-11 lead in the all-time series. The last time these two teams met was on Feb. 4, 2000, a 68-67 Highlanders win. UC Riverside is 7-6 so far this season.
LAST TIME OUTGCU snapped their three-game win streak with a 72-59 loss to visiting Harvard on Dec. 30 in front of a sellout crowd (7,412) at GCU Arena. The Crimson were ranked in the 2014-15 Associated Press Preseason Top 25 poll after going 27-5 last season and advancing to the third round of the 2013-14 NCAA Tournament. The Lopes shot 44.2 percent from the floor (23-for-52) and outscored the Crimson 38-32 in the paint. Harvard went 25-for-48 (52.1 percent) in the game, including 60.0 percent (12-for-20) over the final 20 minutes.
HEATING UP FROM THE FLOORThe Lopes have shot over 50.0 percent five times overall this season, including a season-best 61.7 percent (29-for-47) against Abilene Christian on Dec. 28 at GCU Arena. GCU has outscored their opponents 401-358 in those games. The Lopes have matched their total from last season, as they also had five games where they shot at least 50.0 percent from the field.
