Grand Canyon University senior pitcher
Stephanie Pesqueira has been named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for March 31-April 6, as announced by the conference office.
The senior right-hander went 2-0 with a WAC-best 0.58 ERA and no walks in two complete games last week. She opened the week with a five-inning run-rule shutout of Bakersfield, scattering four hits and striking out two. Pesqueira followed it with another victory over the Roadrunners in the series finale, giving up one run on four hits over seven innings. She has now made seven straight starts without suffering a loss and has picked up a conference-best 10 wins on the season.
This is the second honor of the season for Pesqueira and the fourth recognition for a GCU pitcher on the year, as Kailey Regester and Taylor Nowlin were previous recipients of the accolade. Utah Valley's Debra Lovell, who Canyon will see this weekend, was named the WAC Hitter of the Week.
Grand Canyon will be back in action this weekend with a three-game WAC series at Utah Valley. The Antelopes (19-17) and Wolverines (11-22) have both posted a league record of 4-2 on the season. The two foes will open up the weekend series in Orem, Utah with a Friday afternoon matinee at 1 p.m. (Arizona Time) and will conclude the weekend action with a doubleheader on Saturday.
