The Grand Canyon University baseball team (10-9, 2-1 WAC) will take on Big West Conference member UC Irvine (13-7, 0-0 BWC) for a three-game series that opens tonight at 6:30 p.m. in Irvine, Calif. Pitching coach Nathan Choate and assistant coach Gregg Wallis both have ties to the Anteaters, as Choate served as the pitching coordinator in 2007 and Wallis played for UC Irvine from 2002-05.The Antelopes have won three straight games, including twice over WAC preseason favorite CSU Bakersfield last weekend and a midweek victory over the University of Arizona on Tuesday.

VS. UC IRVINE
This marks the first meeting between GCU and UC Irvine. The Anteaters are members of the Big West Conference.
THE LAST SERIES
The Antelopes defeated the University of Arizona 3-1 on March 18 at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, the first meeting between the two schools since 2003. Starter Ethan Evanko tossed 6.0 strong innings, but did not factor into the decision as Scott Serigstad picked up his first-career win. Jorge Perez secured his second-career save with a perfect 1-2-3 ninth inning. GCU rallied for two runs in the ninth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Michael Pomeroy went 3-for-4 at the plate. It was the third straight win for GCU.
BRUNS GETTING IT DONE
Coley Bruns is 3-0 in three starts this season for the 'Lopes, allowing just seven earned runs in 29.1 innings for a 2.15 ERA. He has struck out a team-best 28 batters. Opponents are hitting .226 against the right-hander, who has issued just 5 walks. Bruns tossed his first complete game of the season on March 16 at Bakersfield, allowing just 4 hits in the 9-2 series clinching win.
ARANDA HAVING HIS WAY
Humberto Aranda is batting .429 (18-for-42) in 12 games for GCU, including 10 starts behind the plate and one as the designated hitter. He has 9 runs, a team-best 5 doubles, a triple, home run, and 9 RBI. Aranda boasts a .667 slugging and .467 on-base percentage. He has hit safely in five of his last six games (11-for-26, .423) and has two four-hit affairs on the season.
DE LA GUERRA WITH THE BAT
Second baseman Chad De La Guerra is batting .356 (26-for-73) in 19 games with 4 doubles, a triple, home run, and team-best 14 RBI. His RBI total is tied for fourth-best in the Western Athletic Conference, while his 26 hits are fourth. De La Guerra has collected a hit in 16 of his 19 games and has hit safely in nine straight (11-for-35, .314). His seven multi-hit games are second only to David Walker (9) on the team.
WALKER GETTING ON BASE
David Walker leads the team with a .500 on-base percentage and is batting at a .386 clip (27-for-70) in 19 games. He also leads the 'Lopes with nine multi-hit affairs and has currently hit safely in seven straight games (14-for-27, .519). Walker was named WAC Hitter of the Week on March 10 after going 8-for-15 (.533) with six runs, three RBI, one double, three walks, and four stolen bases in GCU's four-game series against Omaha.
