GAME NOTES
VS. SEATTLE U
GCU leads the all-time series versus Seattle 2-0, including a 71-63 win over the Redhawks at GCU Arena on Jan. 25. That was the first meeting between the two as Division I schools.
LAST TIME OUT
The 'Lopes saw their four-game win streak snapped by WAC leader Utah Valley after dropping a 79-68 decision at GCU Arena on Thursday. GCU overcame a nine point halftime deficit to tie the score with eight minutes remaining, but the Wolverines scored eight unanswered points and never looked back. Killian Larson led the team with 24 points, while Jerome Garrison added 19 and Daniel Alexander had 15. GCU rebounded from a slow first half start and shot 53.8 percent (14-for-26) in the final 20 minutes but it wasn't enough to cool hot-shooting Utah Valley.
COMEBACK KIDS
The 'Lopes have overcome two 10-point halftime deficits this season, doing so on Dec. 3 vs. Vanguard (38-28) and Jan. 9 at Bakersfield (34-24), and came back from nine down against Bakersfield on Feb. 8 (41-32). GCU has outscored the opposition 910-823 in the final 20 minutes of their 23 games, posting a 44.9 field goal percentage (261-for-581).
BEATING THE ODDS
The 'Lopes currently find themselves in third in the WAC. While GCU was idle last week, they are now 2.5 games out of first (Utah Valley) and 2.0 games out of second (New Mexico State). Those teams have five and four conference games remaining, respectively, while the 'Lopes have six on their schedule. GCU has undoubtedly exceeded all expectations, as they were selected to finish eighth in the WAC preseason coaches' poll and ninth in the media poll.
