The Grand Canyon University men's basketball team (8-7) will go for their fourth straight win when they welcome the Harvard University Crimson (7-3) to GCU Arena tonight. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. as the Lopes also look to improve to 5-1 in the midst of their eight-game homestand. HARVARDThis marks the first meeting between GCU and Harvard. Harvard is 7-3 on the season and most recently dropped a 56-46 decision to Arizona State University on Dec. 28. The Crimson went 27-5 last season and advanced to the Third Round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
LAST TIME OUTGCU picked up their third straight win with an 83-81 victory over Abilene Christian on Dec. 28 at GCU Arena. The Lopes led by as many as 17 points after shooting a season-best 61.7 percent from the floor, their highest field goal percentage since Dec. 29, 2007 (62.5 percent). Joshua Braun led the offence with 18 points, his fifth straight double digit scoring effort.
HEATING UP FROM THE FLOORThe Lopes have shot over 50.0 percent five times overall this season, including a season-best 61.7 percent (29-for-47) against Abilene Christian on Dec. 28 at GCU Arena. GCU has outscored their opponents 401-358 in those games. The Lopes have matched their total from last season, as they also had five games where they shot at least 50.0 percent from the field.
SCORING IN BUNCHESThe Lopes have scored a season-high 50 points in a half twice this season: Dec. 17 against Incarnate Word in the first half and Dec. 28 vs. Abilene Christian in the second half. That number is the fourth-most in a half over the past two seasons, as they recorded 54 points in the second half on three occasions last season. GCU shot a blistering 70.4 percent (19-for-27) in the first half versus UIW and 66.7 percent (18-for-27) in the second half against ACU.
