Grand Canyon (6-7) hosts perennial basketball power New Mexico (8-3) tonight at GCU Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. as the Lopes look to snap the Lobos' five-game win streak. VS. NEW MEXICOThis marks the fourth meeting between GCU and New Mexico. The Lopes traveled to Albuquerque last season, falling 80-68. UNM are winners of five straight, with their last win coming against Western Athletic Conference foe New Mexico State (69-67) on Dec. 20.
LAST TIME OUTGCU scored a season-high 81 points in their rout of St. Edward's on Dec. 20 at GCU Arena. The Lopes shot 55.9 percent (33-for-59), their second straight game over 50.0 percent. GCU led by four points at the half, but outscored SEU 43-21 over the final 20 minutes to pull away. Joshua Braun led the squad with 20 points.
BRAUN NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEKJoshua Braun was tabbed as the Western Athletic Conference's Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 15-21. Braun averaged 18.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game for the Lopes as they went 2-1 on the week. He scored a career-best 22 points on Dec. 17 versus Incarnate Word and pulled down a career-high eight rebounds on Dec. 15 against Bethune-Cookman.
HEATING UP FROM THE FLOORThe Lopes have shot over 50.0 percent in their past two games and four times overall this season, including a season-best 58.2 percent (32-for-55) against Great Falls on Dec. 6 at GCU Arena. GCU has outscored their opponents 318-277 in those games. The Lopes have almost matched their total from last season, as they had five games where they shot at least 50.0 percent from the field.
