Grand Canyon (5-7) is back in action tonight when they host St. Edward's at GCU Arena in Phoenix. ST. EDWARD'SThis marks the first meeting between GCU and St. Edward's. The Hilltoppers bring a 10-0 record into the game, including a 2-0 mark in Heartland Conference play at NCAA Division II. SEU has also played Incarnate Word and Rice in exhibition contests this season.
LAST TIME OUTGCU dropped a thrilling 82-80 game to Incarnate Word on Dec. 17 at GCU Arena. The Lopes led by as many as 13 points, but could not fend off a second half rally by the Cardinals, who shot 52.5 percent (32-for-61). GCU also shot over 50.0 percent (50.9) but were hampered by a 9-for-28 second half performance. Joshua Braun led GCU with a career-high 22 points.
QUITE THE FIRST HALFThe Lopes scored a season-high 50 first-half points on Dec. 17 against Incarnate Word, the most over the first 20 minutes under head coach Dan Majerle. That total is the fourth-most in a half over the past two seasons, as they recorded 54 points in the second half on three occasions last season. GCU shot a blistering 70.4 percent (19-for-27) in the first half versus UIW, including a 7-for-9 mark (77.8 percent) from beyond the arc.
