Reigning Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Coach of the Year Ann Pierson has announced GCU's upcoming 2015 softball schedule. The Antelopes are coming off of a stellar inaugural Division I season, in which they went 27-21 and finished as the WAC champions after posting a 12-3 conference mark.
"We are very excited about the 2015 season," said Pierson. "We have added another home tournament and have three home conference weekends. Plus, we will host the University of Washington in a doubleheader. It's always great to play at home in front of our families and friends."

After playing only 11 contests at its home park a season ago, GCU's 52-game slate is highlighted by 23 home games this season. The home schedule features three contests with 2014 NCAA Tournament teams (Washington, Tulsa, and Utah Valley). Also included on the schedule is a contest with two-time defending Pac-12 Champion Oregon. The Lopes and Ducks will meet in the final game of the San Diego Classic I Tournament. Oregon, who was ranked No. 1 in the nation heading into the 2014 Women's College World Series, advanced to the semifinals of the WCWS before being defeated by Alabama—a team GCU squared off with in 2014.
The Lopes will enjoy their home amenities during the season-opening month of February, as they will host both the GCU Kickoff Tournament (Feb. 6-8) and the GCU Invitational (Feb. 20-22). Over the combined six-day span, GCU will play a total of 12 games inside the confines of Stapleton-Pierson Stadium.
Following the GCU Kickoff Tournament, the Lopes will head to Texas for the two-day Texas State Invitational. While in San Marcos, GCU is scheduled for meetings with Texas Tech, tournament host Texas State, and a pair of meetings with UTSA.
Coach Pierson and company will return to the Valley to welcome traditional softball powerhouse Washington for a Monday (Feb. 16) doubleheader at Stapleton-Pierson Stadium. The Huskies, who were the 2009 National Champions, finished 2014 with a 37-15 record and earned a berth into the 2014 NCAA Super Regional where they fell to eventual National Champion Florida.
After wrapping up play at their own invitational, GCU will make the short trip to California, where they will spend an ample amount of time next spring. During their time in the California, the Lopes will participate in the San Diego Classic I (Feb. 27-29), the 22
nd Annual Capital Classic Tournament in Sacramento (March 12-15), and the Louisville Slugger Invitational in Stockton (March 20-22).
The Lopes will host conference foes Seattle U (March 27-28), Bakersfield (April 10-11), and Utah Valley (April 17-18) in three-game series during league play. Utah Valley, who the Lopes swept last April in Orem, Utah, earned the WAC's automatic qualifier for the NCAA tournament after winning the conference postseason tournament.
Canyon's two conference road series will make for trips to Kansas City (April 3-4) and New Mexico State (April 24-25). GCU's season will come to a close upon the completion of its three-game set with the Aggies in Las Cruces, N.M.
"We continued our tough non-conference schedule to get us ready for a tough WAC run," said Pierson. "We are very fortunate to host Washington as well as our tournament opponents. Every game will be a challenge and will be a true test of skill, strength and speed. We look forward to a great Division I experience and representing Grand Canyon University in the WAC."
