The Western Athletic Conference today announced its 2014 men's soccer postseason awards, and Grand Canyon University forwardÂ
Alberto Sanchez Garcia was tabbed as a Second Team honoree, as voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.
Sanchez Garcia leads the Antelopes with seven goals and 16 total points, as he also has two assists on the season. The seven scores mark a new single-season career best for the junior. He ranks tied for fifth among all WAC players in goals, while his 16 points are tied for seventh-most.
"This is a well-deserved honor for Alberto to get recognized on the All-WAC team for the second year in a row," said head coach Petar Draksin. "He is our leading scorer, and has improved in that category this year. An honor like this recognizes his individual talent and the fact that he is getting his job done on the field."
Five of Sanchez Garcia's goals have come in conference play this season. He scored the game-winner in GCU's 3-2 victory over Kansas City on Oct. 17 at GCU Soccer Field.
This marks the second consecutive season that Sanchez Garcia has earned All-WAC honors, having been named to the First Team following his sophomore campaign in 2013.
