Grand Canyon University's women's volleyball program's initial season in NCAA Division I and the Western Athletic Conference begins Aug. 30 at the Wildcat Invitational in Ogden, Utah.
Head coach Kris Naber announced the team's 2013 schedule today. The Antelopes have 31-matches slated, included 11 in Phoenix at either Grand Canyon University Arena or Antelope Gymnasium.
"We're excited about the opportunity given us by the university, as well as, heading into uncharted territory," said Naber. "We look forward to the competition and representing Grand Canyon University."
GCU starts the season against Wildcat Invitational host Weber State on Aug. 30. The team's first home contest is Sept. 18 against Arizona Christian. The Antelopes begin play in the WAC with a home match Sept. 26 against Kansas City.
Along with a 16-match home-and-home schedule in the WAC, GCU takes trips to Reno, Nev., for the University of Nevada Tournament; Hanover, N.H. for the Dartmouth Big Green Invitational and El Paso, Tex., for a contest against UTEP.
Along with the match against in-state foe Arizona Christian, GCU has home contests against Louisiana Monroe, Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word.
"We'll look to our upperclassmen to provide leadership and a competitive spirit as we dive into Division I athletics."
