Grand Canyon University women's basketball coach Trent May has announced the signing of junior guard Courtney Hayes, a Division I transfer from Louisiana Tech.
A 5-6 guard, originally from Las Vegas, Hayes played in 27 games, including three starts for the Lady Techsters. Hayes averaged 14 minutes per game and was second on the team in total assists and fourth in steals. She had a career-best game of eight points, seven assists and four steals against Seattle last season.
"Our program got better with the addition of Courtney," said May. "She is a tough competitor with great leadership qualities. Courtney understands the game and has played against tough competition. Even with her sitting out this year (due to Division I transfer rules) she will make us better by pushing our players each and every day."
Hayes joins GCU's initial D-I recruiting class that includes freshman center Tori Morris (Herndon, Va.), senior forward Johnna Brown (Dixie State transfer), sophomore guard Madison Craig (Ohlone College) and freshmen guards Astrea Reed (Albuquerque, N.M.) and August Touchard (Newport Beach, Calif.).
