The league office released the All-MIVA team Wednesday.
Mather, a sophomore middle blocker from Redondo Beach, Calif., ranks second in hitting percentage (.459) for MIVA matches and seventh in blocking (1.18). Overall, Mather has 106 blocks on the season, two away from the single-season school record of 108, set in 2010 by Chris Lockwood. He is hitting .391 for the entire season and ranks second on the team in total kills (230), while averaging 2.32 per set.
Ponnet, a junior outside hitter from Merchtem, Belgium, ranks ninth in the conference in kills per set (3.26) and points (3.84) and is third in service aces (.34). Overall, he is the GCU leader in kills (298), kills per set (3.20); total service aces (29), and second in digs (1.86).
He is coming off, arguably, his best week as an Antelope, earning MIVA Offensive Player of the Week and AVCA National Player of the Week honors. He also became GCU's first player to reach 1,000 kills for his career.
Mather was a second-team choice in 2012. Ponnet was a first-team selection in 2012.
The Antelopes take on Ohio State Saturday in a MIVA quarterfinal match in Columbus, Ohio. The first serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. Arizona Time. Fans can follow the match with links available at www.GCULopes.com.
